Nottingham Forest are busy letting the ink dry on a season-long loan deal for West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse following a quiet transfer deadline day.
It’s unusual for Forest to be in this situation. Last season, the Reds signed seven new players on a frantic deadline day but this time things were much calmer.
Ward-Prowse is a master when it comes to taking free-kicks and if scores two for Forest, he will take the Premier League record away from David Beckham.
The 29-year-old scored seven goals and claimed 11 assists last season and now Forest will be hoping he can make an impact this season.
Kevin Nolan shares what will shock Nuno Espirito Santo about James Ward-Prowse
The midfielder only signed for West Ham last summer in a deal worth £30 million and it’s perhaps surprising that Forest have managed to get him.
However, Julen Lopetegui has replaced David Moyes at the London Stadium and that has shunted Ward-Prowse down the pecking order.
Nolan has one of his kids currently playing at Forest and still lives in Nottingham. He was the assistant manager at West Ham last season and believes Ward-Prowse will shock Espirito Santo.
He told BBC Sport: “We finished the second highest in the league for set pieces and he was a major part of it. He’s a top pro, a top player and he’s one of them that you don’t realise how good he is until you’ve seen him out on the training ground.
He’s an excellent signing for Nottingham Forest, I watched him the other night and I think he will fit in there, he will probably go in and be one of the best midfielders they have. I think this is really good business by Forest and just to top it all off, his delivery from free-kicks and corners is excellent.”
