Hart initially signed with UCF but later requested a release from his national letter of intent and, on June 23 of 2023, joined the Wildcats as a three-star prospect ranked the country’s 199th best prospect, 30th best shooting guard and the eighth best prospect from the state of Indiana per the 247sports’ composite rankings.

By signing with the Wildcats, he became the seventh member of the Cats No. 1 ranked 2023 class.

“I’m excited to get started at Kentucky,” Hart said in a press release announcing his signing. “I chose UK because of Coach Calipari, the supportive fan base and Kentucky’s ability to develop players. I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to compete and play in the NCAA Tournament.”

“Joey can really shoot the basketball but also brings a tremendous all-around game to this class,” then UK head coach John Calipari said in the press release announcing Hart’s signing. “His best days of basketball are ahead of him and I look forward to watching him develop alongside the rest of the class. I’m excited to get Joey on campus so he can continue to improve at this next level.”

The Linton, Indiana native played in a very limited role off the bench for the Wildcats this season, appearing in just seven games in which he scored a total of three points and did not log any other stats.

His lone bucket came in UK’s win over Marshall as he hit a late three to give Kentucky 118 points on the night, the most points scored in a single game of the Calipari era.

Since he played less than 10 minutes this past season, Hart preserved a redshirt year and will have four years of remaining eligibility at Ball State.

Hart is the third member of the 2023-24 Wildcats to find a new home in the transfer portal this offseason, joining Aaron Bradshaw (Ohio State) and Zvonimir Ivisic (Arkansas).

He is currently ranked as the 323rd best player in the transfer portal and 80th best shooting guard.
