Elena Rybakina Responds to Netflix’s Decision to Axe Break Point

Kazakhstani tennis star Elena Rybakina has reacted to Netflix’s recent decision to cancel Break Point, the popular docuseries that delved into the lives of professional tennis players. The show, which followed Rybakina and other top athletes on the WTA and ATP tours, was discontinued after just two seasons, sparking debate among fans and players alike.

Rybakina, who featured prominently in the series, expressed her disappointment but remained pragmatic about the cancellation. “It was a great opportunity to showcase what happens behind the scenes in our sport,” she said. “Tennis is physically and mentally demanding, and Break Point gave fans a closer look at the highs and lows we experience throughout the season.”

The 2022 Wimbledon champion added that while she appreciated the show’s effort to highlight players outside the traditional superstars, she understands Netflix’s decision. “Of course, I would have liked to see it continue, but these things happen. Hopefully, there will be other ways to bring fans closer to the sport.”

Netflix’s decision to axe Break Point reportedly stemmed from viewership struggles, despite its attempt to replicate the success of Formula 1: Drive to Survive. While the tennis community initially welcomed the series as a fresh way to attract new fans, some critics felt it lacked the drama and storytelling that made the F1 version a hit.

Many players, including Rybakina, had mixed experiences with the series. Some enjoyed the increased exposure, while others, such as Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Świątek, had previously voiced concerns about the added media pressure.

With Break Point no longer continuing, the future of tennis storytelling in mainstream media remains uncertain. However, Rybakina and her peers will continue to engage with fans through other platforms as the 2025 seas

on unfolds.
