Just in: £13.2m Nottingham Forest-linked star is now ‘close to leaving

Just hours before the first Premier League game of the campaign got underway, Nottingham Forest were linked with Aston Villa player Alex Moreno.

The Reds tried to sign the Real Betis player when the club first reached the Premier League again in 2022 but he chose to remain in La Liga.

Eventually, a Premier League club did manage to entice him away from Betis but it was Villa who secured him for £13.2 million and not Forest who were successful.

Now, Moreno has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park and wasn’t even among the substitutes as Villa defeated West Ham yesterday.

After that win, Unai Emery delivered an update on the Forest-linked player who operates as a left-sided defender.

Unai Emery delivers verdict on Forest-linked Alex Moreno

After Villa had claimed a big win in the capital, Emery was quizzed on Moreno and it provided a little boost for Forest.

The Villa boss told Tom Collomosse from the Daily Mail: “We signed Ian Maatsen and we were speaking with different players in that position. The difficulty is to manage with three left-backs. Moreno is the player who is now close to leaving.”

In 48 appearances for Villa, Moreno has scored three times and claimed three assists, with two of his goals coming last season.

Moreno is behind Maatsen and Lucas Digne at Villa and it’s certainly positive that the 31-year-old is now close to an exit.

Moreno would be solid loan signing for Forest

It’s fair to say that using the loan market wasn’t Forest’s forte last summer with the players added providing little to zero impact.

Andrey Santos signed from Chelsea and played for just seven minutes, whilst Divock Origi failed to score a single Premier League goal for Forest.
