Joe Mazzulla Explains Why The Celtics Have Become Better At Defending Leads.

Last season, the Boston Celtics struggled to maintain leads at times. However, such has not been the case this season, as Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla recently attributed the team’s ability to preserve leads while still chipping away at them to a shift in mindset.

“It’s the mindset and the trust that they’re building”

I think it’s just the mindset that the guys are building and the trust that they’re building,” Mazzulla said. “… And I see a significant difference in the trust that the guys have in each other than I did in the beginning of the year because it just comes with time.”

On Friday, Boston beat the Orlando Magic — a team that has been a persistent thorn in the Celtics’ side the past few seasons — by 17 points.

The win marked Boston’s 19th victory of the season. They now have more victories than any other team in the NBA at the moment, as the Minnesota Timberwolves have the second-most with 18.
