Joe Hart has just six games left of his professional career, with the former England goalkeeper set to retire at the end of the season.
Brendan Rodgers is urging Celtic to give retiring Joe Hart a ‘wonderful sign-off’. The 37-year-old former England shot-stopper, who announced his retirement in February, has just six games left of his professional career.
Each game carries significant weight as the Hoops, currently three points clear at the top, aim to clinch the cinch Premiership title before facing Rangers in the Scottish Cup final on 25 May, which will be Hart’s farewell appearance. “He’s been an absolutely brilliant player in his career,” Rodgers told Celtic TV.
If you go back to when he was at Shrewsbury as a young player and now fast forward, all his life, the commitment, the sacrifices he has made have all been for the team.
“He’s very much a team player. Seeing how he has supported his teammates this season, he’s absolutely brilliant. Of course we want to do it for the club, but for Joe finishing off this would be a wonderful sign-off for him.”
Rodgers attended ‘An Evening With Joe Hart’ at Parkhead on Sunday and revealed that the Englishman, who earned 75 caps for his country and features for Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham during his career, was overwhelmed by the reception from the fans.
“For the club to arrange that for Joe, for the tickets to sell out in one day, and for him to feel that affection, that is what players and people miss when they leave Celtic because it just does not happen in the majority of clubs, that feeling. He was just so appreciative of that from speaking to him during and after the event.”
Hart represented ten clubs over his illustrious career, lifting the Premier League twice with Manchester City and being part of the Spurs squad that reached the final of the Carabao Cup in 2021.
