Joao Cancelo says £35m Man City star is one of the best he’s ever seen

Joao Cancelo has said that one particular Manchester City player is one of the best he’s ever seen.

Throughout his career, the Portuguese international, who is currently on loan at Barcelona from City, has played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, featuring alongside a plethora of top-level players for club and country.

Now though, the 29-year-old has been speaking about one specific player who he has shared the dressing room with at the Etihad Stadium.

Cancelo says City star is one of the best around

He said: “In goal, Ederson, because he is very good between the posts.

“He is very good with his feet, he plays the ball out of defence well and gives many options to the players who play in front of him.”

City signed the Brazilian from Benfica during the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth £35m.

Since then, the 30-year-old has made 328 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, keeping 152 clean sheets in the process.

One of those clean sheets came during City’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the previous Champions League final, where Ederson made five saves in total to help his side complete their historic Treble.

Cancelo isn’t the only person Ederson has impressed

With 29 Premier League games under his belt this season, the Brazilian has racked up a passing accuracy percentage of 87.1%, the second-highest out of any other goalkeeper in the division.

This backs up Cancelo’s point about him being such a good passer of the ball and what he offers the team.

In fact, back in February 2021, Pep Guardiola said that Ederson’s ability with his feet and his distribution is the best he’s ever seen from any goalkeeper.

Taking all of that on board, it’s understandable why Cancelo, who has played with goalkeepers such as Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Rui Patricio, Samir Handanovic and Wojciech Szczesny among others, has picked Ederson for his ultimate five-a-side team.
