Jayson Tatum is off to an incredible start to his 2023-2024 NBA season. The Boston Celtics look to be one of the best teams in the league, and Tatum is playing at an MVP-caliber level. Consequently, Paul Pierce, a former Celtics legend, called Tatum the best American player in the league.

While talking with Kevin Garnett, Pierce revealed just how much he believes in Tatum.

Tatum is averaging 28.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from long range. Tatum has done everything possible to put himself up there with some of the best in the league.

There is undeniably a major discussion surrounding how much international talent is in the NBA. When looking at the top five-10 players in the league, America seems to be lacking in overall talent.

“I’m just looking around, and I think he’s passed Kevin Durant, I think he’s passed LeBron [James] today. I think the the only argument you really got is maybe Steph [Curry].”

As referenced by Pierce, America still has plenty of solid players across the association. Most notably, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, and Jimmy Butler are just a few of the great Americans across the NBA.

While there is not a definitive answer for who the best American in the league is, Tatum is undoubtedly a player who belongs in the conversation. However, Tatum has his sights on being viewed as the best player in the league, not just the best American.
