Jannik Sinner emulates Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer with stunning 2024 feat

Jannik Sinner’s remarkable 2024 season has reached heights that only Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and perhaps Andy Murray, have matched or surpassed this century.

The Italian, who climbed to the summit of the ATP Rankings for the first time in June, holds a huge 4,120-point lead over world No 2 Carlos Alcaraz.

The fact he secured his maiden year-end No 1 finish during last month’s Shanghai Masters — with a significant portion of the season still to be played — highlights his dominance in 2024

Sinner holds a superb 65-6 (91.5%) record and he has claimed seven titles from the 14 tournaments he has competed in.

The 23-year-old started the year by winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, while he collected his second at the US Open in September.

The world No 1 won three of the seven ATP Masters 1000 tournaments he played, having missed the Italian Open and the Paris Masters (he also withdrew during the Madrid Open). Sinner’s other two titles have come at ATP 500 tournaments in Rotterdam Open and Halle.

Prior to the ATP Finals in Turin, Sinner reached at least the quarter-finals at all 14 tournaments he played this season.

In addition to his seven titles, he was a runner-up in Beijing, a semi-finalist at the Indian Wells Open, the Monte Carlo Masters and the French Open, and a quarter-finalist at the Madrid Open, Wimbledon and the Canadian Open.

This makes Sinner only the fourth ATP player since 1990 to reach the quarter-finals or better at every tournament entered in a season (not including the ATP Finals, where there is no quarter-final stage).

The Big Three of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer are the only other men to accomplish this outstanding feat of consistency.

Federer made the last eight at all 14 events he played in 2005: 11 titles; two semi-finals; one quarter-final.

Djokovic also made 14 quarter-finals from as many tournaments in 2011: 10 titles; one final loss; two semi-finals; one quarter-final.

The Serbian then went one better in 2015 by reaching the last eight or better at all 15 events he played before the ATP Finals: 10 titles; four final losses; one quarter-final.

Nadal joined his rivals by making at least the quarter-finals at all nine tournaments he entered in 2018: five titles; two semi-finals; two quarter-finals.
