Nuno’s Nottingham Forest were never going to be able to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool during the January transfer window.
That is according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has stated how essential Kelleher is to his club.
So, what did Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp say about Nottingham Forest’s Caoimhin Kelleher? Let’s have a look.
Jurgen Klopp appreciates Nottingham Forest’s Caoimhin Kelleher.
Nottingham Forest will play Liverpool at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Caoimhin Kelleher will play goal for Liverpool. Alisson is Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, but the Brazil international is currently injured.
So Kelleher has been playing instead, and he has done well thus far. He was one of Liverpool’s greatest players against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, prompting colleague Virgil van Dijk to laud him as “world class”.
The Daily Mail reported on February 1 that Forest wanted to sign Kelleher in the January transfer window and offered Liverpool £15 million for the 25-year-old. The Merseyside club turned it down.
And, now speaking of interest in his second-choice goalkeeper in the middle of the season, Klopp, who has been impressed by Forest’s attacking unit, has said that Liverpool were never going to sell him.
Klopp told The Telegraph about Kelleher: “For me, there was no chance of him leaving, so I was not interested in who was asking.
“It would have had to be a proper price to give us a chance of doing something in a difficult market.
“It is not like other goalkeepers moving from A to B for £15 million or £20 million. That is totally unrealistic and nonsense.”
Nottingham Forest still keen on Caoimhin Kelleher
Nottingham Forest may have failed to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the January transfer window, but they are still keen on the Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper.
The Daily Mail reported this week that if Forest stay in the Premier League for next season, then they will try to sign Kelleher in the summer transfer window.
The report noted that Liverpool, who have already won the Carabao Cup this season, want as much as £25 million for the 25-year-old.
Defending Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are also keen on securing the services of Kelleher.
