“Here We Go” – Mason Greenwood Signs a five-year contract with Olympique Marseille

MANCHESTER UNITED’S MASON GREENWOOD AGREES TO JOIN MARSEILLE

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood (22) has greenlit a move to join Ligue 1 side Marseille after both parties struck an agreement in principle, according to a report this Tuesday by David Ornstein of The Athletic. The 22-year-old now only needs to undergo a medical and put pen to paper over a five-year contract to ratify his transfer from Manchester United to Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille, considering Les Phocéens had already wrapped up a 31.6€ agreement with the Premier League side.

Mason Greenwood’s move to Marseille was thrown into doubt after the city’s mayor Benoit Payan publicly expressed his disagreement with the English forward joining the club, labeling his actions as “unbecoming of a man.” The Manchester United youth product was charged in October 2022 with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. A portion of Marseille fans have also led a campaign against Greenwood’s transfer to Marseille under the hashtag #GreenwoodNotWelcome.

Marseille needed a striker after it transpired that free-scoring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (35) would leave Les Phocéens to join Al-Qadisiyah.
