In a recent interview, two-time MotoGP world champion Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia addressed critiques regarding his on-track demeanor, particularly comments from Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi, who previously urged him to “stop being a gentleman” to avoid being “torn apart” by rivals. Despite these criticisms, Bagnaia remains steadfast in his approach, emphasizing his commitment to sportsmanship. He stated, “I [will] let [Marc Marquez] be the ungentleman. I will be the gentleman and I will always be like this and I will not change any time.”
Reflecting on the 2024 season, Bagnaia acknowledged areas for personal improvement. Despite securing 11 grand prix victories, he fell short of clinching his third consecutive title, finishing 10 points behind Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin. Bagnaia admitted to contemplating his mistakes during the off-season, even during his honeymoon, and emphasized the need to learn from past errors to enhance his performance in the upcoming season.
The 2025 season presents a new dynamic for Bagnaia as he teams up with eight-time world champion Marc Marquez at Ducati. Marquez, known for his aggressive racing style, brings a contrasting approach to Bagnaia’s more measured demeanor. Bagnaia expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “It’s absolutely the strongest team on the grid. I think we can take advantage of it. We can try to learn from some things about Marc.”
Marquez, acknowledging Bagnaia’s established position within the team, remarked that it’s “logical” for Bagnaia to have the first say in team matters but expressed confidence that Ducati will treat all riders equally.
As the new season approaches, Bagnaia remains focused on refining his strategy and learning from past experiences. He aims to balance his commitment to sportsmanship with the competitive demands of MotoGP, striving to reclaim the championship title while maintaining his principles on the track.
