Julian Alaphilippe Reflects on Near Miss: “The Most Dangerous Moment of My Career”

French cycling star Julian Alaphilippe has spoken with deep emotion about a terrifying incident during a recent race, calling it “the most dangerous moment of my career.” The two-time world champion, known for his aggressive racing style and fearless descents, described the moment that left him shaken and grateful to have avoided disaster.

During the latest stage of an early-season race, Alaphilippe found himself caught in a high-speed descent with little margin for error. Strong winds, poor road conditions, and a misjudged turn nearly ended in catastrophe. Speaking after the race, the Soudal–Quick-Step rider admitted, “I’ve had crashes before, I’ve taken risks, but this was something else. I really thought for a moment that I wasn’t going to make it.”

The Frenchman, who has suffered multiple injuries over the past few seasons, including a brutal crash in Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2022, said this latest scare was a reminder of the dangers of professional cycling. “We push our limits every day, but sometimes things are out of your control. It’s a fine line between glory and disaster,” he reflected.

Despite the terrifying moment, Alaphilippe managed to stay on his bike and complete the stage, though he admitted it took time to regain his composure. His performance this season is being closely watched, as he aims to return to top form after a challenging few years marked by injuries and inconsistent results.

With the classics season approaching, Alaphilippe remains determined but knows he must balance his trademark attacking style with calculated caution. “I love this sport, but moments like this remind me how precious everything is,” he c

oncluded.
