Graeme Carrick has left his role as Newcastle United under-18s coach to join the first-team coaching staff at Middlesbrough.
The 39-year-old, the younger brother of Boro head coach Michael, returned to the Magpies’ academy in 2022 having previously coached at Little Benton between 2005 and 2007. He led the U18s to a 12th and 8th place finish during his two years in charge.
Prior to his second spell on Tyneside, Carrick was employed by the FA for 15 years as a coach developer. His move to Teesside represents the first senior coaching role.
Steve Harper, Newcastle United’s Academy Director, said: “I would like to thank Graeme for his excellent work in developing our young players both on and off the pitch.
“Whenever a player of staff member moves on to first team opportunities, whether it’s here or elsewhere, we can all be very proud of them.
“Middlesbrough are getting a great guy, a very good coach and we all wish him every success with his new role. The search for a new Under-18s lead coach has already begun.”
Born in Wallsend, Graeme began his playing career at West Ham United’s youth set-up along with Michael, before injury put an abrupt end to his footballing career.
