Former Steelers offensive lineman says Mike Tomlin is on the hot seat

For quite sometime now, there has been a vocal number of Steelers fans who have called for Mike Tomlin’s job.

Those shouts and calls for the job of Tomlin were at an all-time high last season when the Steelers lost consecutive home games to two-win teams in a span of four days, losing to the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots.

While the Steelers went 3-1 the rest of the way, they were once again eliminated in the Wildcard round of the playoffs and became the first team in NFL history to surrender 30 or more points in five consecutive playoff games.

Willie Colon played in Pittsburgh from 2006-12, winning a Super Bowl with the Steelers in the 2008 season. Now, in an appearance on The Craig Carton Show, he says that Mike Tomlin is on the hot seat in 2024.

“I love Mike Tomlin, but this is, I have to officially say, he’s on the hot seat,” Colon said. “And when you talk about his overall record, you talk about in 17 seasons, he has an eight and 10 playoff record, only four seasons with playoff wins and he’s had some bona fide teams even with Ben Roethlisberger. The issue with Mike Tomlin right now is he wins games he’s supposed to win, but loses games he shouldn’t lose. I’m saying to myself, ‘well, who are the Pittsburgh Steelers?’ Are they the bullies, or ae they the dweebs right now? If you lost to the Patriots and the Cardinals, you look like the dweebs.”

The four seasons with a playoff win certainly sticks out. And while I don’t believe Tomlin will be fired after this season no matter the outcome, the Steelers need to win when it matters most, which they haven’t done since the 2016-17 season.
