Former NFL Coaches Are Already Calling Talk Radio To Provide Quarterback Advice To The Browns

Being a Cleveland Browns fan must be really irritating. Every time they think they’ve found a franchise quarterback, they end up starting with someone like 38-year-old Joe Flacco.

The Browns’ quarterback situation has been so poor for so long that the organization reportedly considered picking two quarterbacks in the first round of the NFL draft in 2018.

Flacco, in his 16th season in the NFL, completed just 23 of 44 passes in his first game with the Browns last weekend.

Remember, this is the same guy who was demoted to third string in favor of Mike White and Zach Wilson with the Jets in 2022.

Since starting 16 games for the Ravens in 2017, Joe Flacco has played in 9 games, 8, 5, 2, 5, and now 1 game over his past six seasons in the NFL, going 7-20 as the starter.

That, however, is of no interest to former Browns coach Al Saunders who called in to The Ken Carman Show on 92.3 The Fan to express how much he thinks the elite Super Bowl winning Flacco should definitely be starting against the Jaguars this weekend

“I had to pull over and stop at a rest stop to call you guys,” Saunders informed the show’s hosts Ken Carman and Anthony Lima. “There is no decision here.

“I coached Joe Flacco in Baltimore. When the Browns signed Joe, I sent [Browns general manager] Andrew Berry and the coaching staff and said what a great move that was. Because the time to win for Cleveland is now.

“At 7-5 and you’re going into the stretch run of the season, [Dorian Thompson-Robinson] is a great young prospect and you can’t teach experience. And Joe Flacco, his personality, his demeanor, his ability to run an offense in that short period of time was incredible. He’s the perfect guy for the Cleveland Browns to capitalize on where they are in a playoff hunt.”

Did everyone get that? Joe Flacco = the perfect guy for the Cleveland Browns.

Just like Deshaun Watson, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, P.J. Walker, Jacoby Brissett, Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum, Nick Mullens, Tyrod Taylor, DeShone Kizer, Kevin Hogan, Cody Kessler, Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Johnny Manziel, Austin Davis, Brian Hoyer, Connor Shaw, Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden, Thad Lewis, Colt McCoy, Seneca Wallace, Colt McCoy, Jake Delhomme, Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson, Ken Dorsey, Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye, Trent Dilfer, Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Kelly Holcomb, Tim Couch, Doug Pederson, Spergon Wynn, and Ty Detmer were as the Browns’ starting quarterbacks ever since Vinny Testaverde took his talents to Baltimore.
