Former LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese won her first WNBA game

Angel Reese took on a higher form during the second half of Saturday’s intense Sky-Wings game.

Former LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese won her first WNBA game on Saturday night after the Chicago Sky beat the Dallas Wings 83-74. Reese put on a stout performance in her second matchup of the 2024 season. The rookie forward made a play on her “Chi Barbie” nickname with a big claim after the game.

“4th quarter barbieee,” Reese posted on X alongside a a crying face emoji.

“Ima stay outta fouls trouble yall but whew im so happy for this team! FIRST WNBA WIN & MORE TO COME!” Reese added with a fire emoji.

Angel Reese racked up four fouls early, but she eventually returned to the game and was huge in the Sky’s comeback win. The self-proclaimed “4th quarter Barbie” finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and went 5-for-7 on free throws.

The Wings had Chicago down by as many as 12 points during the game, requiring the Sky to climb out of a hole at halftime. Reese believes the Sky experienced an energy shift and an intense focus that allowed them to make a run in the second half.

I think everybody just came out with energy, did all the little things…blocks, steals, boxed out. Everybody did what they needed to do to get the win,” Reese said during the post-game press conference.

A fair amount of that energy was provided by Reese, who is starting to confidently embrace her role on the team.

“Even though I’m young, I know I bring a lot of energy to this team. My energy is contagious, and I just try to boost everybody up as much as I can,” Reese shared.

Chicago wants Reese to continue to make her presence felt, and her Wings showing is just the beginning of what should be a promising professional tenure.

Angel Reese had one of the most impressive journeys in college basketball before landing her opportunity with the Sky. Reese started her collegiate career with the Maryland Terrapins in 2020, where she built a solid foundation. The former McDonald’s All-American averaged 10.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.
