Manchester United’s incoming game-changer According to a source, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is considering former Celtic transfer guru Lee Congerton for his massive Old Trafford overhaul.

The English billionaire will purchase a 25% stake in the Old Trafford club and will lead the football team while the contentious Glazers stay in charge. And Ratcliffe is looking for a director of football to revitalize one of the world’s most powerful clubs. A number of signing specialists have been linked, and Congerton, who is currently Atlanta’s head of senior recruitment, is now on their wanted list.

Congerton enjoyed a close bond with Brendan Rodgers but he copped flak from Celtic supporters in his role as head of recruitment. It came amid a lack of box office arrivals to build on the Irishman’s stunning Invincible Treble triumph during his first season at the Parkhead helm. The Welshman reunited with Rodgers at Leicester City before he earned the chance with the progressive Serie A side.

The Telegraph states Ratcliffe will lean on Sir Alex Ferguson for his counsel with Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman the leading candidate and Milan icon Paolo Maldini another in the frame.

Boss Erik Ten Hag has endured a tumultuous second season in the Old Trafford hot seat but it’s understood the Dutchman retains the backing of senior figures at United and will be backed to ride the storm which has them off the pace in the Premier League and needing snookers to exit their Champions League group.
