Erik ten Hag will face a touchline ban when Everton take on Manchester United after the international break.

The Red Devils boss picked up his third yellow card of the campaign during his side’s 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday. Referee Graham Scott issued a caution in the final minutes of stoppage time, with Ten Hag protesting as a throw-in was being taken.

Previous bookings against Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal means the Dutchman must watch United’s trip to Goodison Park on Sunday, November 26 from the sidelines. Cards were introduced for managers and coaching staff in 2019.

Carlo Ancelotti infamously escaped a ban despite receiving a red card following a game against Man United three years ago. The then Everton boss – who was fined £8,000 – fumed after VAR ruled out Harry Maguire’s own goal due to Gylfi Sigurdsson blocking David de Gea’s line of sight.

Aside from the one-game ban, Ten Hag had little else to complain about as the Red Devils got their season back on track. Luton proved tough customers at Old Trafford but were edged out 1-0, with Victor Lindelof bagging the winner. The win means United are now three points behind Liverpool in fourth – although they have played a game more.

Everton, meanwhile, made it four wins from their previous six games across all competitions with a 3-2 victory at Crystal Palace. Given the Red Devils shaky start to the campaign, the Blues will be aiming to move within four points of their opponents when they welcome them to Merseyside,.
