Nottingham Forest transfer latest and an update on striker Santiago Gimenez, with reports that a conversation has been had between him and Nuno
Free-scoring striker Santiago Gimenez is said to be reconsidering the offer put to him by Nottingham Forest this summer as he reviews his own future at current club Feyenoord. Gimenez has plundered 48 goals for the Dutch side in the last two seasons since joining the club and already has netted four times in the early stages of this new campaign.
Whether the Mexican remains in the Netherlands beyond this summer, though, remains to be seen; he has been the subject of interest from Forest, who are on the look-out for another centre forward to complement the existing options of Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi to help push Forest on in what is their third campaign back in the Premier League.
According to reports in his native Mexico, Gimenez has been speaking with senior figures at Forest, including Miltiades Marinakis, and manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The report adds: “He’s reconsidering Nottingham Forest’s offer to play this season. Yesterday he received a call, with whom he had been talking for a long time, from Nuno…this gesture from the manager has made him reconsider.
Gimenez, 23, has interest also from clubs in Germany and Italy and has previously indicated that he will get his head down at Feyenoord and continue giving his all for the club if a move doesn’t materialise this month, before the window shuts. It’s claimed that Forest have tabled a bid worth in the region of €35m and it’s an offer which satisfies Feyenoord’s valuation of the player. He has three more years left on his current contract.
Speaking to Dutch broadcaster Rijnmond about his future earlier this summer, Gimenez said: “There is interest from other clubs, but nothing serious, no offer or anything like that. So, I focus on the here and now. If there is an opportunity which compares to Feyenoord, then I have to look at it.
After that, we’ll see. I’m an ambitious person, but I’m still here and I have a contract. I’ll do my best for the club until the last day I’m here. The only one who knows whether I am ready for the next step or not is God. He determines my future and whether I am ready for it. I have told Dennis (Feyenoord chief executive Dennis te Kloese) and Brian (Feyenoord head coach Brian Priske) that they do not have to worry about my focus.”
