‘It Cost The Club Almost £100 Million,’ Say Some Manchester United Fans Of The Team’s Withdrawal From The Champions League

Man United were eliminated from the Champions League after losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich in their final group-stage game of the 2023/24 season.

As a result, they finished last in Group A and have been eliminated from all European events.

Man United fans are, understandably, upset at the situation and most seem to be pointing a finger at Andre Onana for such a dismal showing.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper made a number of significant errors throughout the Champions League campaign and has left some fans fuming, as they reacted on Twitter.

MarkGoldbridge: “Replacing De Gea with Onana has cost the club over 100 million….50 on the keeper and 50 on dropping out of Europe. Shocking decision.”

Si Llod: “Hard to get annoyed with this tonight. Onana’s errors against Galatasaray and some dodgy decisions in Copenhagen have done them, all while missing several first team players each game. Horrible campaign.”

Focetowreckwith: “I’m more than convinced that we would be in the UCL if we had De Gea instead of Onana.”

Phil’s_osophy: “Very likely. Why couldn’t they have bought Onana and kept De Gea for 1 more year to slowly get Onana in? Lindegaard was a great competition for De Gea in the early days. Just saying.”

Utdbrxy: “So hard to blame anyone other than Onana for this UCL exit. We scored the most in our group too ffs.”
