Sutton claims Celtic are not in crisis, pointing out that they are still top of the league.
Celtic aren’t in crisis yet, according to Chris Sutton, but they could be soon if Brendan Rodgers doesn’t ‘take some responsibility.’
The Hoops were defeated for the second time in a row by Hearts on Saturday, and they now have fewer points than they did in Neil Lennon’s final season, when their 10-in-a-row dream came to an end. Rodgers’ comeback is in jeopardy, with Rangers now only five points behind the champions and two games in hand.
Sutton though was quick to point out they are still top of the league – even if Rodgers has taken them backwards. And while he accepts furious fans’ frustrations amid chants of ‘sack the board’ at Parkhead on Saturday, he reckons the boss has to step forward and take some responsibility for their dramatic recent dip.
Sutton was speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live where host Robbie Savage labelled Celtic a ‘crisis club,’ and responded: “Crisis club Celtic? Still top of the league, an insipid performance today by all accounts and there are Celtic fans out there who will blame the board. They can blame the fact that there’s a section of the Celtic support which still aren’t allowed inside Celtic Park.
“But surely Brendan Rodgers has to take some responsibility. He’s gone back, last season it was Angeball, but the level of performance has really dropped this season and Brendan has to carry the can for that.”
