The Denver Broncos fell to 7-8 after a disheartening loss to the New England Patriots on Christmas Eve night. This effectively killed their postseason prospects, barring a miracle, so let us turn our attention to the impending NFL Draft as we enter the final two weeks of the regular season.
According to Tankathon, the Broncos presently own the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Broncos have two games left which could dramatically change their draft position. If they win out and somehow sneak into the postseason, they would be no lower than 19th. Meanwhile, if they lose out, they could find themselves with a top-10 pick in the draft. If they split their next two games, they likely will be picking in the same range they are currently at.
Current NFL Draft order
There are two 6-9 teams, the Bears and Jets who currently have the 8th and 9th overall selections. After that, there are six total teams with 7-8 records which includes the Broncos. Then eight teams have 8-7 records which includes some teams currently in the playoffs. So, depending on how these next two weeks go, we figure to see a good amount of change in the draft order.
For the Broncos, they have two games remaining, their next game at home vs. the Chargers and then they finish up the season on the road against the suddenly hot Las Vegas Raiders. The Chargers are a 5-10 team and lost to the Broncos two weeks ago however they played the Bills tough so it could be a tougher game than some believe. As for the finale, it’s on the road vs. the Raiders and a game in which we likely see the Broncos as underdogs.
With the Broncos looming decision on the future of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, where they end up in the draft is something to keep an eye on. This draft has multiple quarterbacks expected to go in the first round but this is a conversation for another day(probably in less than two weeks).
