Tottenham injury news: Ange Postecoglou sees important man stagger off against Aston Villa in the second half
Tottenham suffered a huge injury setback shortly after halftime in their encounter against Aston Villa when key defender Micky van de Ven was forced off the pitch. Ange Postecoglou replaced the Dutchman with Radu Dragusin, who joined in January.
Van de Ven lasted less than five minutes in the second half, after Dragusin had warmed up during the break. He was taken down after a block on Villa forward Leon Bailey.
A physio came on to help him off the field, lifting his leg into the air. His game was up, however, and Spurs were forced to rearrange at the back.
Spurs weren’t put off by the setback though and took the lead swiftly after. James Maddison converted from Pape Matar Sarr’s cross to give Tottenham a vital lead.
Brennan Johnson doubled the advantage just minutes later as well, pouncing on a loose ball to finish. It came after a largely stale first half in which big chances were at a premium.
Spurs had dominated the ball and territory but failed to make their superiority count. That changed after half-time though as they penned the top four rivals back in style.
