BBC Scotland have shared footage of the pitch at Dumbarton ahead of Rangers’ Scottish Cup clash on Saturday 20 January after it was confirmed that it had passed a pre-match inspection.
Philippe Clement’s side get their domestic campaign back underway with an away trip in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, having spent time in La Manga on a warm weather training camp during the Premiership’s winter break.
There has been concerns that Saturday’s tie would be called off following adverse weather north of the border, but following a pitch inspection from the officials, the pitch was deemed safe enough for the game to go ahead.
In the footage posted on X (20 January), the referee was comfortably able to move around the field without noticing any dangerous patches on the pitch as the Dumbarton ground staff had managed to keep the turf in good condition.
Game on
Rangers need to get their domestic campaign up and running again with a routine progression into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. Anything less than a comfortable win will be viewed as an abject failure by the Gers fanbase.
The warm weather training camp will have hopefully given the players in Clement’s side an opportunity to recharge and refocus ahead of the second half of the campaign where there is still plenty to play for both in Europe and domestically.
Hopefully, a winning start to the second half of the season will see Rangers get off on the right foot and act as the foundation from which they can build a positive run of form, especially as there is another piece of silverware ultimately up for grabs.
In an ideal world, the pitch will manage to hold up through the entirety of the clash to ensure that none of Clement’s squad picks up any unnecessary injuries as was the case with Kieran Dowell in La Manga.
