Bayern Munich’s New Signing Reveals He Supports Barcelona And Idolizes Messi: “Nobody Can Play Like Him”

Speaking in an interview, Bayern Munich new signing Nestory Irankunda has revealed that he is a supporter of FC Barcelona and idolised three Blaugrana legends growing up.

Irankunda, 17, was signed by Bayern earlier today from Australian outfit Adelaide United, with the player set to move to Germany in July next year.

A goal-scoring winger by trade, Irankunda has revealed that he supports FC Barcelona and that he wanted to become a centre-back like Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique growing up.

As quoted by SPORT, the Bayern Munich prodigy said: “I used to want to be a centre-back. Watching Barcelona, that’s my team that I support. Carles Puyol and Gerard Piqué, I used to watch them a lot.”

Irankunda then went on to state that he was turned into a winger after he scored a few goals and that he started to follow another Barcelona legend, Lionel Messi, very closely following the shift in position.

“Things changed once I was called up for a trial at the Croatia Raiders. They moved me to forward, striker. I scored a handful of goals,” Irankunda stated.

“I always wanted to play like Messi, he inspires me to be a better player. Watching the way he plays is what I try to play; nobody can play like him, but that’s how I try to base my game. He is very agile and powerful, so I try to base my game on him,” he added.

Irankunda will turn 18 years old in February next year and will arrive in Bayern Munich the following summer.

If he goes on to progress well, there may come a day when he faces Barcelona in Europe as part of Bayern’s first team.
