FC Barcelona has already started planning for the upcoming summer, even though the new season is just a few months old.
The club’s sporting department, under the direction of director Deco, is already at work determining which positions on the team require reinforcement and developing potential solutions and targets for those roles.
Now, according to SPORT, Deco intends to bring in three significant strategic additions for Barcelona by 2024, which should provide the team with a strong roster with balance.
Two new full-backs and a young pivot
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez should have two trustworthy choices for every position on the field, according to the plan.
That has not been the case this season at the pivot midfield position, with summer addition Oriol Romeu the lone natural option.
The Spaniard was never going to be a long-term solution, and his form has deteriorated recently, which is why Deco and co. are already planning to bring in a young pivot midfielder next year.
Apart from the defensive midfield position, Deco wants to bring in two new full-backs, one for each side, regardless of whether Joao Cancelo’s loan is extended.
Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso are both out of contract at the end of the season.
While market opportunities will be investigated, the possibility of relying on in-house talent is not out of the question, which might open the way for loanees such as Alex Valle and Julian Araujo.
The addition of a left-winger is the icing on the cake.
Apart from the three aforementioned positions, Xavi and Barcelona would like to bring in a new winger, but only if the circumstances allow it.
Ansu Fati will return from his loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion, although he might be moved off permanently if he is not counted on.
Xavi has always wanted to bring in a natural left-winger to strengthen his attacking unit, but the options that Barça like are out of their reach, financially speaking. But if there are any major sales, the avenue will be explored.
