Barcelona Will Hold Contract Negotiations With The Top Midfielder In 2024. – Romano

Financial issues have managed to plague FC Barcelona for quite some time now. The Catalan giants are often forced to abandon certain targets and prospects simply due to their economic limitations. However, it has impacted more than just arrivals.

For Barcelona, even retaining players and extending their stay with the club has become complicated. Recently, an agreement with Marc Andre Ter Stegen allowed Barça to reach a good balance that could keep their accounts sustainable and balanced for now.

According to the latest information provided by reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona are currently unable to further negotiate renewal deals with any player. However, as soon as they are, their primary concern is to extend Frenkie De Jong’s contract.

The Dutch midfielder is one of the most sought-after players in the football market. Moreover, he is even more valuable to Xavi Hernandez as a player on the field given how much control and ability he provides to this Barcelona side, one that has undoubtedly struggled without their Dutch maestro.

As per Romano, Barcelona will likely negotiate with De Jong in the summer of 2024. The club is speculated to be waiting for as long as possible to first balance out their books for this year in itself. Once that problem is sorted, Barça will move towards wrapping up any and all contract negotiations.

However, to ensure that the operations go by smoothly when the time comes, Barcelona Sporting Director Deco is having constant conversations with the players and their agents. This includes Frenkie De Jong, who Barcelona want to retain for years to come.

He remains happy at Barcelona due to a multitude of reasons, as per Romano. With no intention to leave, De Jong is expected to be a crucial part of the team and under Xavi Hernandez. FC Barcelona remains his dream club, and La Blaugrana themselves want to extend his stay well beyond 2026.
