Following yet another poor season, the Atlanta Falcons have received a lot of attention on the NFL trade market.
It’s evident that general manager Terry Fontenot will be active in his efforts to maintain his job, which was saved by the firing of head coach Arthur Smith.
Atlanta has won seven games in each of the last three seasons, putting all of the responsibility on the general manager. That might now include pursuing standout Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
According to NFL expert Tony Pauline, Atlanta is one among the teams expected to pursue the Super Bowl hero and ace cornerback.
Kansas City will assign the franchise tag to Sneed, 27, ahead of the NFL free agency period. The team has also granted him permission to seek a trade. The rumored asking price is based on a second-round choice and may fluctuate.
It makes obvious sense that the Falcons would want to improve their cornerback situation. In 2023, opposing quarterbacks threw 24 touchdown passes and only eight interceptions against this squad.
The prospect of pairing Sneed with budding sensation A.J. Terrell in the defensive secondary must appeal to Atlanta.
Last season, Sneed completed just 51% of his passes and had a 56.2 quarterback rating when targeted. He also performed admirably in the postseason, guiding Kansas City to their second consecutive Super Bowl victory.
All of this comes as the Atlanta Falcons are favorites to acquire Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in a blockbuster trade.
Atlanta holds the eighth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It also possesses a second-round pick and two third-round picks to use in future trades for seasoned players.
