Aston Villa’s Behind-The-Scenes Decision Infuriates A Broadcaster, Calling It “A Shambles.”

We are excited to have Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey join us as our exclusive columnist. Every week, he will share his thoughts on the club’s most talked-about topics.

Ty Bracey called the ticketing decision for Sunday’s Aston Villa vs. Nottingham Forest game a “shambles.”

A Villa season ticket holder shared a screenshot of an exchange with the team’s official support page on Twitter on November 3, just before the game at the City Ground. The exchange confirmed that only supporters with eleven or more ticket references could buy tickets that had been returned to the club.

It further stated that if fans who fit that description did not seize the chance to purchase tickets in advance of the match against Forest, they would “remain unsold.”

Even though those individuals eventually bought all of the tickets, Bracey thinks it is “absolutely outrageous” that other season ticket holders who didn’t meet the requirements wouldn’t have been able to purchase them.

“I think it’s a shambles,” Bracey stated in an exclusive interview with Villa News. Naturally, I believe that the devoted fans who attend every game should always have priority and should always have first choice.

But how are you supposed to build that criterion if you can’t get tickets if you can’t consistently build away references? For Forest, that would be 11 away games. Why is it preferable that there be no seats? In the worst situation, simply place it on the ballot and offer voters the chance.

“Give those tickets to the guys in the ballots; who does it hurt if people aren’t bothered about doing every away game or building references and just want to do an away game here and there? No one is harmed in any way. It seems completely ridiculous to me.

“The tickets were ultimately sold in accordance with the criteria, but if there is a chance to sell them, none should be lost. That has nothing to do with money.

“You want your away supporters to be there in full force, and those who don’t often attend away games will be eager to join the Villa supporters in song and fun. Those allocations must be sold out. I simply believe that whoever is making those calls is making a bad choice.
