Newcastle United have so far managed to keep a hold of most of their key players.
Though manager Eddie Howe has admitted he did not want to lose either Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh, they were ultimately the players Newcastle sacrificed in order to balance the books.
As disappointing as it was to see them depart, it – at least in the short term – was far more palatable to sell that pair than it would have been to cash in on one of the club’s prized assets.
Indeed, Newcastle have been able to keep a hold of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak for now at least, as well as a certain Anthony Gordon.
The winger was reportedly tempted by the idea of a move to Liverpool after the clubs held talks about a potential shock deal, such was Newcastle’s desire to ensure they avoided a ten-point deduction from the Premier League for breaking PSR rules.
Obviously, nothing ended up coming of that but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has just offered more insight.
Fabrizio Romano hints at fresh Liverpool move for Anthony Gordon
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano revealed that Liverpool do remain keen on a move for Gordon.
So let me say that I would not be surprised if Liverpool decided to try again,” he said.
“I’m not saying that it’s going to happen, because Newcastle will not make it easy for any club interested in Anthony Gordon. They want to keep him. They want to trust him. They want him to be one of the faces of their squad for the present and future.
“So it’s not an easy one, especially after the panic of financial fair play at the end of June, but the interest of Liverpool in Anthony Gordon remains strong, and he remains one of the players they keep mentioning in internal talks at the club.”
