Anthony Gordon At Newcastle Is Currently At A “Different Level,” According To Jamie Carragher, For Two Reasons.

Jamie Carragher has praised Anthony Gordon, who had a rough beginning to life at St. James’ Park, for his remarkable season as a standout star for Newcastle United.

Anthony Gordon has gone to ‘another level’ at Newcastle United, according to Jamie Carragher, partly because of Harvey Barnes’ arrival and England’s victory at the under-21 European Championship. Although the January acquisition struggled at St. James’ Park at first, he has become one of the season’s biggest stars thus far.

Gordon’s controversial winner against Arsenal last Saturday brought his season total to four goals. During the tense match at St. James’ Park, Carragher named the youthful forward his man-of-the-match instead of Joelinton.

The 22-year-old’s stats this season were then singled out for analysis following the full-time whistle. Carragher highlighted the stark upturn in the attacker’s return in the final third as evidence that he is currently at the levels of some of the Premier League’s ‘top players’.

Asked if Gordon has gone to ‘another level’, he told Sky Sports: “Yes, and I think there are two reasons for that. I think the under-21s championship in the summer where he was outstanding and he brought the trophy home for England.

“Also the arrival of Harvey Barnes has lifted his game, and you just look at his previous career there. 80 appearances going back, a few for Newcastle at the end of the season and for Everton before that.

“You look at goals, assists, 432 minutes per goal or assist, and the difference you see since May. Look at that number and how much it has dropped—123 minutes for a goal or an assist. That puts him right up with some of the top players in the Premier League.”
