Amidst new Ben Johnson developments, Leeds United should focus on these three defenders.

Leeds United have been linked with defender Ben Johnson for a while now as his West Ham contract winds down.

Leeds United will be in need of several new signings this summer but full-back is an area sure to be bolstered, and departing West Ham man Johnson looked to be an ideal target.

It has been said that the Hammers academy graduate is turning down a new deal to move elsewhere. However, amid interest from the Whites, reports state Ipswich Town are now in advanced talks to sign him.

As such, the recruitment team at Elland Road will have to turn their focus elsewhere.

With that said, here are three Ben Johnson alternatives Leeds United should have in mind as they look to bolster their options at full-back.

Ki-Jana Hoever – Wolves

Dutch prospect Hoever is back at Wolves after another fruitful spell with Stoke City. It remains to be seen just what his parent club have planned, but the Whites should take note of him regardless.

The former Liverpool and Ajax prospect is a versatile defender who has moved to full-back with great success after time at the heart of defence as a youngster. The 22-year-old managed four goals and ffive assists in 40 Championship games last season.

An attack-minded full-back with experience in the middle could be ideal for Leeds United. Hoever fits that mould, but Wolves’ plans remain unknown.
