Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Alex Moreno from Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal.
The Reds have been in the market for a left-back all summer, with Nuno Espirito Santo keen to add to his rearguard.
A requirement for another left-back was evident on Saturday after Ola Aina hobbled out of the action in the second half.
Harry Toffolo deputised and as ever, he did a steady – if unspectacular – job in his natural left-back position.
Forest were in the mix to sign Bradley Locko after the Olympics but the player picked up a ruptured Achilles that scuppered any move.
Now, Moreno should be in the squad to play for Forest on Saturday at Southampton and he’s happy to have signed for the club.
Alex Moreno shares what surprised him about Nottingham Forest last season
Forest defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at the City Ground last season, with Ola Aina and Orel Mangala scoring the goals to claim a big win.
Moreno was on the bench as Villa lost that day but he was surprised by the level of noise that was created at the stadium.
He’s now looking forward to sampling that noise first-hand and can’t wait to get going on Trentside.
Speaking on that day in November last year, he told the club’s official YouTube channel: “The stadium and the fans are incredible. Amazing day, amazing for the fans, it was a great day for them, it was loud and it surprised me and I think they’re up there with the best in the Premier League for pushing the team.”
Moreno could quickly become fan favourite at Forest
At 31-years-old, this doesn’t feel like a long-term signing but Moreno’s experience in a young defensive unit could actually be a very useful asset.
