According To Ex-Skipper, The £22k-A-Week Star Has Now Become Rangers’ ‘Driving Force.’

Rangers midfielder John Lundstram has been singled out by Barry Ferguson as the guy driving the squad ahead under Philippe Clement.

Lundstram has undoubtedly had an up and down Ibrox career, going from the highs of scoring against RB Leipzig on his way to the club’s 2022 Europa League Final to the lows of fan skepticism that his time at Rangers could be coming to an end.

But he has silenced that sort of talk this season, particularly under Clement. He was certainly our man of the match against Real Betis a couple of weeks ago, which forms only part of his tremendous form recently.John Lundstram now Rangers ‘driving force’ says Barry Ferguson

Lundstram has since been praised by the likes of Kenny Miller and Derek McInnes for rediscovering his magic in a Rangers jersey, which could mean a new contract is on the horizon for the midfielder.

Unfortunately, Lunny was on the end of a horrendous challenge against St Johnstone on Wednesday night and the ankle injury will keep him out until we hear more about his scan results.

Ferguson alluded to Lundstram’s injury but was quick to focus on the positives regarding Lundstram this season.Speaking to The Go Radio Football Show, our former captain commented: “He’s going to be a big miss, John Lundstram missing for the game against Motherwell on Sunday.

“To be honest with you, I think he’s been Rangers’ real driving force since the new manager arrived. So it will be interesting to see who he puts in the middle of the pitch.

“Certainly, the injuries are mounting up and it’s not an ideal situation but I always think it’s an opportunity for somebody else to come in and show what they can do.”

Ferguson is spot on with his assessment. Clement has helped maximise Lundstram’s ability in the middle of the park and we will really notice the impact the Englishman has had when he doesn’t feature against Motherwell.

Ferguson noted, however, that Lundstram’s injury creates a space for someone else to step up and take their chance in the midfield.

Ryan Jack, Tom Lawrence and Jose Cifuentes are all missing at the moment, so the likes of Dujon Sterling, or John Souttar according to Ferguson, may be the options to play alongside Kieran Dowell at Fir Park.
