After months of speculation, the Miami Dolphins have officially extended Jaylen Waddle. Per Adam Schefter, the two parties agreed on a three-year, $84.75 million deal with $76 million guaranteed.
Waddle’s deal makes him the fourth highest-paid receiver in terms of average salary, coming out to just over $28 million annually. The contract extension comes over a month after the Philadelphia Eagles extended Waddle’s college teammate DeVonta Smith on a three-year, $75 million deal.
Shortly after Smith set the bar for a contract, Amon-Ra St. Brown surpassed it, agreeing to a four-year, $120 million deal with the Detroit Lions.
Since being drafted in 2021, Waddle has been a fundamental component of Miami’s offense, recording 251 receptions, 3,385 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns. The former University of Alabama standout put up career bests in 2022 with 1,356 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns.
Waddle set Dolphins’ rookie records in receiving yards and receptions during his inaugural season and has surpassed 1,000 yards in each of his three seasons.
While Waddle, Tyreek Hill, and Braxton Berrios will return to the receiving room in 2024, the Dolphins are welcoming newcomers in Odell Beckham Jr., Malik Washington, and Tahj Washington.
WME negotiated the deal; the sports agency represents star athletes such as Joel Embiid, Serena Williams, and Christian McCaffrey.
