Liverpool are among the sides ready to pounce as Leeds United look to plug a £100million-plus black hole, according to the Daily Mail.
The publication shared an update on the bleak financial situation at Elland Road via its online edition on Monday (27 May).
United missed out on an instant return to the Premier League on Sunday (26 May) with a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the play-off final.
The Whites are said to have missed out on a nine-figure payment through matchday, broadcast and commercial revenue.
The report cites Crysencio Summerville as a player that will “almost certainly” leave this summer, with Liverpool “one of a number of top-flight clubs believed to be keeping an eye on the Dutchman’s situation”.
Crysencio Summerville is Premier League-bound
Leeds are facing another year of Championship football, but Summerville will surely be back in the top flight next season
A move abroad is not out of the question, but it seems more likely a team from the Premier League will cough up a large amount for him.
Whereas Leeds have no chance of recouping anything close to the £35m splashed out on Georginio Rutter, they will make a huge profit on Summerville.
Nobody at the club wants to see him leave, of course, but this was always going to happen if promotion was not achieved.
Damage limitation is now the key, with loan players returning to their parent clubs and a handful of others likely being sold on.
The only hope is that some quality replacements can be brought in, but the first priority is to ensure the club bring in enough money to not breach the financial rules.
Instead of an exciting summer of transfer activity, many Leeds fans will simply want the window to close.
