Chris Sutton identifies where Celtic still have issues and accuses Philippe Clement of Rangers fan deceit

Sutton insists the title race is far from over as the Hoops are far from perfect

Chris Sutton insists the title race is far from over because Celtic still have issues within their team.

The Hoops sit three points clear at the top of the Premiership ahead of the final five games and host Rangers in the final derby of the season, a fixture they’re unbeaten in this campaign. The Ibrox men have imploded over their last two games, taking just one point from two games they’d expect to get six against Ross County and Dundee.

The performance in those games have been just as concerning as they couldn’t even really argue they deserved anything more and most now have Brendan Rodgers’ side as shoo-ins for the league trophy. Celts hero Sutton isn’t quite as convinced though and feels there may be more twists and turns.

He sees a weakness in his old side in the wide areas and also has concerns over their inability to turn in a 90-minute performance.

Speaking in the Daily Record, he said: “Unlike Celtic AND Rangers fans, I don’t think the title race is over. I don’t trust either side to remain unbeaten from now until the end of the campaign.

There are still issues in the wide areas at Celtic and they are a team that has played in halves over this year. It was the same against St Mirren last weekend, where it was a bit of a struggle against a team sitting deep until they got the first goal.

Celtic fans are taking great delight in the apparent collapse at Ibrox but their players have to completely ignore what’s going on over there and take care of their own business.”

Meanwhile, the outspoken pundit has accused Phillipe Clement of attempting – and failing – to pull the wool over Rangers fans’ eyes The Gers boss claimed the performance in Dundee was an improvement from the weekend before but Sutton insists that doesn’t wash.

“Clement is showing signs Glasgow is starting to get to him,” he added. His post-match comments after that desperate display in Dundee – when he said he got a response from Ross County and the Dens men were lucky – didn’t wash with fans. They are not daft. Clement talked about the Dundee keeper making saves and shots cleared off the line.

“We all saw the game. It’s one thing protecting his players at such a vital time of the season, but you can’t pull the wool over everyone’s eyes. I have a degree of sympathy for Clement. He probably over-performed with the squad at his disposal, but we are now seeing them revert to type.”
