The Celtics narrowed their potential first round opponents to two on Wednesday night after the play-in tournament kicked off for the Eastern Conference. The Miami Heat will host the Chicago Bulls on Friday night for the opportunity to secure the No. 8 seed and take on Boston starting Sunday at TD Garden.
The No. 8 seeded Heat dropped a heartbreaker to the No. 7 seed 76ers on Wednesday night, blowing a 14-point first half lead on the road in a 105-104 loss. Philadelphia will now take on the No. 2 seeded Knicks in the first round, starting Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Jimmy Butler also suffered a knee injury in the defeat and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday, leaving his health in question for Friday’s matchup on South Beach.
