Boly, Awoniyi, Tavares – Nottingham Forest injury state of play ahead of Spurs showdown

Nottingham Forest head to the capital to take on Tottenham Hotspur this weekend in good spirits.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side claimed an impressive 3-1 win over Fulham at the City Ground in midweek to boost their survival hopes. But the challenge now is to build on that result and establish some daylight between the Reds and the bottom three.

What we know: The centre-back had only just returned from a spell on the sidelines but suffered a fresh injury while on international duty last month. He limped off after 36 minutes of Ivory Coast’s 2-2 friendly draw with Benin and has missed the Reds’ last two games.

What has been said: “He had an injury with the national team,” Nuno said after Saturday’s draw with Crystal Palace. “I’m not sure about the timing.”

Taiwo Awoniyi

Injury: Unknown.

What we know: Awoniyi has already missed a chunk of the season due to undergoing groin surgery in a bid to solve a longstanding problem. He made his comeback in January but Nuno had talked about managing him carefully as he struggled to return to full sharpness.

He suffered a problem in the build-up to the draw with Luton Town which was due to rule him out for a few weeks. The initial diagnosis suggested it was difficult to put an exact timeframe on how long he could be out for, but it was believed he could be absent from anywhere between two to five weeks.

What has been said: “He is doing treatment. It is a serious injury, unfortunately,” Nuno said last week. “It is a big blow for us because he had just come back (from injury). The importance of Taiwo is huge. He gives us another option.

“I don’t know exactly how long he will be out for but I am positive we are going to see him again this season. He will definitely miss these two games (against Palace and Fulham).”

Injury: Thigh.

What we know: The left-back picked up an injury during the 2-0 victory over West Ham United. He was expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks.

What has been said: “He is getting closer. He hasn’t joined the group yet. I’m not sure when that is going to happen,” Nuno said after Saturday’s draw with Palace.
