Former Steelers quarterback signs $5.25 million two-year contract with the Bills.

Mitch Trubisky, the former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, has quickly secured a new position in the NFL. The Buffalo Bills have allegedly agreed to a two-year contract with the veteran player at $5.25 million, with potential earnings of $8.45 million. Trubisky is expected to earn $2.7 million for the upcoming season, a strong guarantee.

In 2021, Trubisky served as the backup to Josh Allen in Buffalo, seeing action in six games and throwing for 43 yards. However, his time in Pittsburgh didn’t pan out as expected. He struggled with a 2-5 record as the starter, completing 64.1% of his passes for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. By Week 5 in 2022, rookie Kenny Pickett took over the starting role, relegating Trubisky to the bench.

Trubisky briefly reclaimed the starting spot in 2023 due to Pickett’s injury in Week 13 but couldn’t turn it around, ending with two losses and stats of 359 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. Mason Rudolph stepped in and led the Steelers to victory in the last three games, securing a playoff berth.

Trubisky, initially drafted as the No. 2 overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2017 NFL Draft, had a decent run with a 29-21 record before entering free agency. The Bills’ decision to bring him on board signals a strategic move amidst other team activities. On the same day as Trubisky’s signing, the Bills let go of six players, including Jordan Poyer and Tre’Davious White, and restructured contracts, including Von Miller’s deal. Additionally, they reportedly re-signed safety Taylor Rapp ahead of the upcoming free agency period.
