Simon Jordan says he is pulling for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership title battle because Brendan Rodgers “irritates” him.
Philippe Clement’s side leads by two points after defeating rivals Celtic at the weekend for the first time in six years. Motherwell won 2-1 at Ibrox on Saturday, inflicting their first home defeat under Clement. That gave the Hoops a chance to recover top spot, but they fell short at Tynecastle, losing 2-0 to Hearts.
The consequences from the defeat could leave Rodgers in hot trouble, since he questioned the officials’ ability, particularly VAR John Beaton. The visitors were reduced to ten men after only 16 minutes, after Yang’s yellow card for catching Alex Cochrane with a high boot was elevated to a red after a VAR check. The Jambos were subsequently granted a disputed penalty kick after Tomoki Iwata was found to have touched the ball in the area, despite having his back to the ball, which fell on his arm.
The race for the top flight crown is set to go to the wire, but Jordan has revealed he’s backing Rangers to lift the trophy, mainly down to not liking the way Rodgers has conducted himself

It’s not the first time Jordan has taken aim at Rodgers. He couldn’t understand why the Irishman was considering a return to Parkhead in the summer before his appointment was confirmed. He said: “If he goes back to Celtic I’m not sure what that says about where his career is going, with due respect to Celtic. But they will get a capable manager.
“I would be surprised if that was a route that either party wanted to go down. Because if you’ve got this background noise of Celtic fans are disillusioned with him or disappointed with the way he left. And unfortunately, people must be judged by their last event, he was responsible in part for this team being relegated.
“So the most important thing to remember right now is his current version. Whether that’s good enough for Celtic, whether Celtic wants to bring him back into the equation. I would be surprised, I don’t think it’s a fit that works.
“Economically it doesn’t seem to fit and for where he wants to manage, because he went to Scotland to come back to the Premier League, obviously because that’s what he did. It’s a very strange dynamic to say ‘I’ll skulk back to Scotland to give myself another opportunity to come back to the league that I actually want to manage in.’”
Jordan also described Rodgers as an “imitation” earlier this season, while swooning over Philippe Clement. He said: “I don’t think Brendan Rodgers is at it. I think he’s an imitation of himself. I think the balance of probability still errs on the side of Celtic, but they’re in a battle now.”
