The Chicago Bears understand that they must solve one major issue before the offseason begins: is Justin Fields a white elephant or a quality quarterback worth keeping?
The Ohio State alum has already expressed his sentiments after making a shocking but understandable decision on social media. Some may even argue that the rest of the NFL is simply waiting for the Bears’ head office to clarify their offseason intentions so that they can make the necessary adjustments.
However, recent indications indicate that Fields will most likely leave Chicago to make way for one Caleb Williams.

According to The Spun’s Andrew Gould, the Bears will define their quarterback approach before the NFL Scouting Combine starts next week.
He writes that ESPN’s Albert Breer predicts that it won’t be long before Fields will have a clear outlook on what his 2024 offseason will look like:
Breer claimed the Bears “really like” Fields as a player and “love” him as a person, but he projected that the opportunity to draft Williams would be too appealing for Chicago to pass up.
Staffers from other clubs inquired about Fields’ availability at the Senior Bowl in Alabama earlier this month. According to Breer, the Bears will most likely seek an experienced player back in exchange for the 2021 first-round pick.
Chicago was not it for Fields.
It’s a depressing finish to Justin Fields’ time in Chicago, and it’s difficult to pinpoint a specific explanation for his lack of impact on the squad.
He’s demonstrated enough throughout the 2023 season to convince the rest of the league that he requires support rather than a change of scenery. In 13 games with the Bears this season, he completed 61% of his throws for 2562 yards, 16 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and a career-high 86.3 quarterback rating.
Understandably, Caleb Williams is an appealing potential to pass up, but the Chicago Bears may end up shooting themselves in the foot if Fields thrives with whichever team signs him in the offseason, since Williams will have to adjust to the speed of the professional game.
