‘I don’t know’… The 22-year-old Nottingham Forest player is seriously confused after this weekend.

Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams has spoken of his surprise that he wasn’t awarded a penalty against West Ham.

The Wales international was speaking to Nottinghamshire Live.

So, what did Williams say about the decision that went against him as Forest defeated West Ham? Let’s take a closer look…

What Neco Williams said after Nottingham Forest victory

Well, it would appear that the 22-year-old was left extremely confused when Tom Bramall chose not to award him a spot-kick in the second half.

Maxwel Cornet clearly stood on Williams inside the penalty area and remarkably the VAR chose not to recommend a second look

Forest star Williams can’t believe technology didn’t assist the referee after the contentious decision.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “The previous few weeks, luck hasn’t been on our side; we’ve been unlucky, like with the penalty on me. It was a stone wall.

“He has plainly stepped on my ankle. For me, you must be constant. I’m not sure how they didn’t see that on the replay.

“There was contact. He’s got my ankle. I was going through on goal and he caught me. And it hurt! It was a penalty. And I just don’t know how it hasn’t been given.”

Williams has a point – the Reds were robbed again

In our view, Forest defender Williams has hit the nail firmly on the head. The referee might not have seen it but he should have been helped out by the VAR.

It’s frankly becoming ridiculous and Forest seem to be on the wrong end of an error every single week.

As a result, it’s no surprise that Evangelos Marinakis has tasked Mark Clattenburg with educating Forest, appointing him to a new role.

Thankfully on Saturday, it wasn’t the Williams decision wasn’t one that Forest lived to rue and shortly after Callum Hudson-Odoi scored to wrap things up.

Things have to change, however, and the standards must improve.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise to hear Williams speak of his amazement at the decision he didn’t get during the Forest win on Saturday.
