Jesse Lingard to West Ham United update emerges after new transfer twist

West Ham were among the teams who were watching Jesse Lingard in the January transfer window, although they were reluctant to sign him, according to the Standard.

The newspaper reported via its website on 6 February that after his successful loan spell in 2021, he was on West Ham’s radar, but he now looks set to complete a move to South Korean side FC Seoul.

Lingard has agreed a two-year deal with the club, having completed a medical, and is now in Seoul to finalise the terms of the move after sacking his agents amid a lack of interest in January.

West Ham are past Lingard now

There was concrete interest in bringing Lingard back to the London Stadium in the summer, with David Moyes reportedly keen on the deal, but nothing ever materialised.

He was training with the Hammers for an extended period, with the club even covering the cost of his hotel, a chauffeur to and from training, and providing all the coaching and medical assistance needed, just to move on from the deal in the end.

Their reported interest in January comes as a surprise given that situation, even with their reluctance to sign him which has meant he is now going to South Korea, but he was always bound to be on their radar.

It was said throughout the January transfer window that the Hammers would look to bring in some forward options, especially with Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals leaving and with a mini-injury crisis with the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus missing.

While Lingard was never going to be that man, the interest perhaps makes sense as an outside option to provide short-term cover, as Moyes knows him well.
