Netflix Releases Trailer for Highly Anticipated Robert Plant Documentary: “The Voice of the Gods”

Netflix has just unveiled the full-length trailer for “Becoming Led Zeppelin”, the long-awaited, officially sanctioned documentary featuring rock legend Robert Plant alongside Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. Directed by Bernard MacMahon, the film is titled “The Voice of the Gods” in some promotional material, a fitting tribute to Plant’s towering presence in rock history.

The trailer offers a vivid time capsule of Led Zeppelin’s early years—featuring never-before-seen concert footage from 1969 in both the UK and US, intimate glimpses into the band’s personal archives, and powerful archival audio of the late drummer John Bonham . Viewers can expect to hear the band members—Plant, Page, and Jones—reflect on their humble beginnings, the spark that birthed the band, and their meteoric rise in under two years .

Notably, this marks the first time Led Zeppelin’s surviving members have participated in a feature-length documentary, making it a truly historic deep-dive into the band’s inception . The trailer intersperses raw performance scenes with touching personal storytelling—especially the vintage clips of Plant enthralling audiences with his youthful charisma, and Bonham’s previously unheard interviews recalling life on the road .

“Becoming Led Zeppelin” debuted exclusively in IMAX and theaters on February 7, 2025, following its acclaimed premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2021 . The documentary runs approximately 121 minutes and was crafted after five years of painstaking archival work, restoring rare footage from festivals such as Fillmore West and the Atlanta Pop Festival .

Critical reception has been mostly positive, with reviewers praising the film’s deep archival storytelling and freshness. The Guardian praised the retrospective approach and genuine charm, while noting that it focuses on the formative years through 1969, and stops short of charting the band’s later evolution .

As for Netflix viewers, the documentary isn’t streaming yet but is expected to arrive during the summer of 2025, as part of Netflix’s “Pay 1” agreement with Sony Pictures Classics . Until then, fans can catch it on the big screen or in IMA
