Derrick Henry Donates $14.8 Million to University of Alabama for Stadium Renovation

Tuscaloosa, AL – In a move that has stunned the college football world, Alabama football legend Derrick Henry has made a historic $14.8 million donation to the University of Alabama. The generous contribution will fund a major renovation project at Bryant-Denny Stadium, marking one of the largest single donations ever made by a former Crimson Tide athlete.

Henry, the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner and current NFL star, announced the donation in a press conference held on campus Saturday afternoon. Flanked by university officials, athletic department leaders, and head coach Kalen DeBoer, Henry said the gift was his way of giving back to the program and community that shaped his career.

“This university, this team, and this stadium helped make me who I am,” Henry said. “It’s an honor to give back in a meaningful way and ensure future generations of student-athletes have the same opportunities I had.”

The donation will go toward a comprehensive renovation of Bryant-Denny Stadium, focusing on upgraded player facilities, enhanced fan experiences, and the construction of a new athletic performance center. In recognition of his gift, a portion of the stadium will be renamed in Henry’s honor, with a commemorative statue also planned.

University President Stuart Bell praised the contribution, calling it “transformational.”

“Derrick’s generosity speaks to his character and his commitment to excellence on and off the field,” Bell said. “This will leave a lasting legacy for Alabama football and the entire university community.”

Henry, who remains one of Alabama’s most beloved sports figures, rushed for over 2,200 yards during his Heisman season and led the Tide to a national championship. His donation not only cements his legacy on the field but now also off it—as a champion for future Crimson T

ide athletes.
