Rangers Transfer News As Josh Doig Move To Marseille Now Hits The Skids

Rangers target Josh Doig appeared set to be joining Marseille but that move has now hit the skids and will not be happening, per the Daily Record.

The news outlet reports that Sassuolo has come in with a bigger bid and Hellas Verona’s preference is to sell to them even though he agreed personal terms with the French club.

Foot Mercato have claimed that Marseille themselves have changed targets and now close in on Ulisses Garcia.

Twists and turns

Sassuolo entering the fray with a higher bid introduces a challenging scenario for Rangers.

While the situation may seem like a potential ray of hope for the Scottish side, it effectively transforms into a bidding war, where financial constraints become a significant hurdle.

Rangers, facing limitations in their financial capacity, might struggle to compete with the financial prowess of both Marseille and Sassuolo.

The increased competition for Doig’s signature, especially with Sassuolo’s higher bid, underscores the financial challenges Philippe Clement’s side are likely to encounter in securing the left-back.

In a bidding war, clubs with more substantial financial resources often hold the upper hand, making it challenging for the 55-time SPFL champions to match or surpass competitive offers.

They will undoubtedly have moved on to alternative targets as this does not make financial sense for them and hopefully have a few options in mind.
