Should Lack Of Celtic Transfer Activity Be Making Fans Nervous And What Does Philippe Clement Need? Saturday Jury

The top flight might be in cold storage but there’s no shortage of talking points for the Record Sport team this weekend.

Should Celtic fans be getting nervous about the lack of transfer activity so far in January?

CRAIG SWAN: Maybe nervous isn’t the right word, but certainly keeping a close eye on events because this a key time to get the additions. And the right ones.

SCOTT BURNS: There are still more than two weeks to go in the window. There is plenty of time. Yes, Celtic need to add quality but they are still clear at the top of the table. I would expect some late business.

MICHAEL GANNON: Not yet. It’s a difficult window to get deals done early, unless they are coming from markets like Japan or the US. Nicolas Kuhn is on the way but Celts might need to wait until late on to get the other two signings they want.

Rangers won’t be going for Michy Batshuayi but what does Philippe Clement need in this window?

CRAIG: Clement could do with another striker. Apart from that, he looks to have a reasonable squad at this disposal. It’s ‘wants’ as opposed to ‘needs’.

SCOTT: They are looking for a left-back and you can see why. Borna Barisic is out of contract in the summer and there is also on-going interest in Ridvan Yilmaz. So it makes sense to look for a long-term solution.

MICHAEL: He could still do with a left back, another wide man and maybe a centre back as well, so there’s plenty of work to be done.

What did you make of the Motherwell investment appeal video that went viral this week?

CRAIG: All a bit of fun, but you’d be hoping the people in power at your club had the right contacts to go and source some investment.

SCOTT: It got people talking, so from that point of view it was job done. Yes, it might not have been everyone’s cup of tea but it got maximum exposure. it remains to be seen, though, if Taylor Swift invests.

MICHAEL: It did the job as it was seen by millions and ended up on the national news. If it helps someone with plenty of cash to step forward then it will have worked a treat. The vid was tongue-in-cheek but Well’s long-term finances are clearly no laughing matter.

Seeing as we’re on the winter break, give us your Premiership team of the season for the first half of the campaign.
