Rangers: La Liga Approach Made For Borna Barisic As Ibrox Move Made Behind The Scenes

La Liga clubs have made an approach for Rangers defender Borna Barisic but the Ibrox club have made moves behind the scenes, according to Football Scotland.

The outlet reported on Friday (12 January) that the Light Blues are looking to offer the Croatian defender a new contract to ward off potential suitors during the January transfer window, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

Numerous clubs aresaid to be interested in signing the 31-year-old, with approaches coming from teams in Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie B and Barisic is now free to speak to these teams as he enters the final six months of his Rangers contract.

But Rangers are keen to bring an end to these exit discussions and have already made a move to secure the defender’s future with a new contract in Glasgow.

Get him secured

Rangers cannot afford to let Barisic walk away for nothing come the end of the season. The Light Blues don’t have many options at left-back and if they let the Croatian depart they could be massively harming their chances of lifting the Premiership title in the future.

Ridvan Yilmaz seems destined to depart Scotland this month as Hellas Verona close in on the Turkish full back and if Barisic was to follow his positional peer at the end of the season, Clement wouldn’t have a genuine left-back in his squad.

Rangers

Tying Barisic down to a new deal will at least ensure that the Light Blues will receive a reasonable fee if they lose Barisic in the summer transfer window. As a proven international defender, it would be awful for the Gers to see him walk away for nothing at the end of the season.

Hopefully, the 31-year-old’s head won’t have been turned by the interest from European clubs this month and he will sign a new deal at Ibrox. Rangers will hope that they have done enough to convince the Croatian to sign on the dotted line.
